Wally Weekes Pool North Bondi

Bondi's Other Ocean Pool - Wally Weekes

Wally Weekes is a quaint little tidal rock pool located at the northern end of Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach. Situated alongside the North Bondi Children’s Pool, it’s good to know there is an alternative close by to Bondi Icebergs, that is a bit more unassuming. The number one rule for visiting Wally Weekes Pool is to make sure you go somewhere in the vicinity of a high tide. Otherwise there will only be enough water for you to dip a toe.

How big is Wally Weekes Rock Pool?

At approximately 28 x 15m at it’s biggest points, this is quite an irregular shaped pool that isn’t suitable for doing laps in. It’s in a lovely spot and would definitely lend itself to going for a quick dip to cool off on a hot day, or to get some cold water exposure in Winter.

What makes Wally Weekes Pool so popular?

Wally Weekes Ocean Pool provides a protected area to swim where the waves and swell are within view, but are not able to knock you around. Also a good spot to swim for someone who isn’t confident to swim in the waves at the beach.

What other ocean pools are near Wally Weekes Pool?

Wally Weekes Pool is kind of a conjoined twin with North Bondi’s Children’s Pool. The children’s pool is knee deep and perfect for the kids to have a splash. Next time I go back, I’ll check the tides and see if I can catch it at it’s best.

At the southern end of Bondi Beach is the famous Bondi Icebergs Pool, perhaps Sydney’s most famous ocean pool. You have to pay to get in, and it is a bit more fancy with all the facilities.

If you have the transport, I’d really recommend heading less than 5kms south to the Bronte Bogey Hole for a better swimming experience. If you’re heading north, the next closest pool is Fairy Bower at Manly, almost an hour’s drive away.

What is the water temperature like?

The second time I visited Wally Weekes, the tide was high and it was good for a swim, I couldn’t go in because I was recovering from an operation. My companion Draco the duck told us the water temp was a balmy 16.9 degrees and then proceeded to swim away from me at the waters edge. Thanks so much to the kind lady swimming who rescued him for me.

If you would like to get your own Draco to tell you the water temp of where ever you swim…you can get one here.

What is access like to Wally Weekes Pool?

Good access from the promenade via a ramp, but stairs into Wally Weekes.

There is a kids park located just behind the pool and at the other end of the promenade is Bondi skate park.

There’s cool graffiti style artwork on the promenade wall and plenty to see and do nearby.

Is there car parking at North Bondi rock pool?

The parking is crazy expensive, so plan your visit accordingly. Spots are limited and they cost so much because they don’t want you to stay too long. Just don’t stay too long, it will cost you an arm and a leg!
