Visiting Currarong Rock Pool
Currarong Rock Pool is one of those natural ocean pools that I love to have a snorkel and an explore at. A short walk from the car along a sandy track to the tidal pool is easy for those who are mobile, with a hand rail and steps into the pool itself. No wheelchair access and difficult pram access.
Located at the southern end of beautiful Currarong Beach, it’s definitely worth the half hour drive from Nowra to check it out.
It can be a bit shallow on a low tide, so I’d recommend visiting on a mid to high tide. on the highest tide you might get rocked about by some small waves that can make their way over the rocks to the pool under these conditions.
The pool lends itself to snorkelling to admire the many little fish that swim around here or if you’re lucky you might catch sight of a sting ray blending into the sandy bottom. Actually, let me rephrase that, there are sooo many fish here!
It makes sense to be on the lookout for sharp oyster shells in some areas of the rock pool.
The water can be absolutely crystal clear if conditions are favourable when you visit, making the underwater visibility breathtakingly beautiful.
The way the seaweed moves with the currents under water it looks almost as if it is breathing…
When we visited in April 2024, our ever-reliable Dumbledore Duck told us the water temp was around 19 degrees…perfectly pleasant!
There are 3 conveniently positioned picnic tables right next to the pool, so pack a picnic if you get the chance.
If a lap pool is more your vibe, Huskisson Sea pool is only a short 43km drive further south.
If you’re travelling south from Sydney (only a two and a half hour drive in good conditions) make sure you stop off at the spectacular Boat Harbour Rock Pool at Gerringong on the way!
