Werri's Ocean Pool
Werri Beach Ocean Pool, also known as Ourie Pool, is actually a pair that are situated on a massive flat rock shelf at the south end of Werri Beach. One regular looking rectangular ocean pool, and one that is perfectly round and very small. An instagrammer’s delight!
An absolutely breathtaking view to the north is worth a visit even if you don’t fancy a swim. The pool by my very rough estimates is about 33m long by 17m wide. The shallow end was just above mid thigh on my 12 year old daughter. I’m going to approximate that at about 0.7m deep. The deep end was just overhead on me, so close enough to 1.6m.
There is also a shallow, perfectly round kids pool located a bit closer to the car park. I have seen photos of this pool where it looks so pretty, I was really looking forward to checking it out. Another case of don’t believe everything you see on Instagram…About 7m across and maybe less than knee deep, it was underwhelming to say the least. We certainly didn’t see it at it’s best, the water was skanky, smelled pretty bad and it looked like there were a few oyster shells on the bottom that little feet shouldn’t go near.

The big pool was beautiful. Crystal-clear water invited us in. The natural-looking bottom of the pool with plenty of sand and seaweed gives it that feel that I think I prefer. The bright blue, painted lap pools just scream workout to me, while the natural ones draw me in with their beauty and holiday vibes. Funny though, I also quite like the one’s like this where, you can circumnavigate the pool along the man made concrete edging.
Before we arrived here on a sunny afternoon in early November 2023, we had been driving north up the coast on a pretty sweaty journey as the air conditioning in the car had packed it in. A slurpee from the servo at Nowra had temporarily eased the pain, but as we approached Gerringong, my mind was made up. The detour was so worth it. A very refreshing dip at 19.5 degrees according to Dede duck, was followed by much exploring across the rock platform. So many tiny rock pools to explore, finger suckers and starfish a plenty. There was even some seaweed that was a cross between wet lettuce and soft carpet. With the appearance of green garbage bags, and a texture like no other, I still can’t decide if I liked the feel of walking on it or not.

Cold water open air showers located near the carpark. No changerooms. Toilets not wheelchair accessible.
My preferred option, on occasion such as this, is the quick change under a hoody towel!
