Coledale's Ocean Pool
Coledale Rock Pool is located on the rock platform at the southern end of Coledale Beach. Featuring a lap pool with a ramp in the north west corner and a set of stairs in each of the southernmost corners. The rock platform is underwater at high tide, so it is worth checking the tides before setting off with Coledale Ocean Pool as your destination.
50m in length, so perfect for those who like to do laps. It also features a square children’s paddling pool to keep the littlies amused. There is also the extensive rock platform to explore.

Visiting Coledale Ocean Pool
The first time we swam here was on a summer’s afternoon in December 2023. Ben and I had got hot and sweaty after a tough battle on the tennis court, and I had decided we would check out Coledale to cool off as it was one of the few Illawarra pools we hadn’t yet checked off our list. As we got towards Bulli we could see the rain coming down the escarpment, but decided we had come too far to turn back. Not that I mind swimming in the rain, but I didn’t feel like a super responsible adult as we watched the lightning not too far away from where we were. As the rain headed towards us from out at sea, the ships that were being engulfed by the low lying clouds had a really eerie appearance, reminiscent of ghost ships disappearing into the mist in Pirates of the Carribean.
We jumped in, saw that Daniel the duck was saying 22 degrees, did half a lap and decided we were too young to die today, and did a runner back to the car, glad to have survived our adventure without being struck by lightening. Hoping our next visit to Coledale Rock Pool is a bit more relaxed.
There is a toilet block and cold shower available just to the south west of the pool.
If you’re pool hopping, Coledale Rock Pool is just 2.3kms north of the Austinmer twin pools and 4.2kms south of the Wombarra Rock Pool.

No lifeguards on duty at Coledale Rock Pool, although they do patrol Coledale Beach in the Summer.

Electric BBQs located 900m north, adjacent to Coledale Surf Club.
Is Coledale Rock Pool Wheelchair and Pram accessible?
Definitely not at high tide or on a big swell as you have to walk through the water on the rock platform just to get there!
