Canoe Pool is located at the northern end of Newcastle Beach, right next to the Newcastle Ocean Baths.

Why the Canoe Pool is a great place for kids
This pool is a massive egg shaped paddling pool. At the longest point it is about 110m long and at it’s widest about 75m across. A gradual entry via the sandy beach means it’s safe for the kids to play.
Packing a camera is essential
The Canoe Pool lends itself to epic photos just like the Newcastle Ocean Baths right next door. To get it at it’s best, be sure to get there for sunrise on a day where there is no wind, and the pool will be like a giant mirror.

What other ocean pools are near the Canoe Pool
Just over a kilometre further north is the Soldiers Baths Rock Pool.
Head north and there is the stunning Newcastle Ocean Baths right next door.
Just under 2 kms south is the Bogey Hole, and it’s 5km in a southerly direction to Merewether Ocean baths.

Are there lifeguards on duty at Canoe Pool?
No lifeguards at Canoe Pool, but lifeguards on duty at Newcastle Ocean Baths from 9 April 2024 to 27 September 2024 – 8am to 4.30pm

Is there car parking at Canoe Pool?
Free car parking in the carpark off Shortland Esplanade as well as street parking.

Are there BBQ Facilities at Canoe Pool?
No BBQ facilities, so if you need one, you had better pack your own.
Is the Canoe Pool wheelchair and pram accessible?
Good access. Ramps into the sandy entrance to the pool.
Which Newcastle ocean pool is the best?
I admit I haven’t been to any of them yet, and I’m sure the Merewether folks will claim theirs is better because it’s bigger, but if you have toddlers to entertain, this one should be top of your list!

What are the changeroom and shower facilities like at the Canoe Pool?
Hot water showers in the iconic changerooms next door at Newcastle Ocean Baths. Changerooms open from 5:30am daily.
Can I take my dog to Canoe Pool?
There’s no dogs allowed in the pool area.
