Where is Aslings Beach Rock Pool?

Aslings Beach Rock Pool is located at the southern end of Aslings Beach in the sleepy seaside village of Eden. The southernmost ocean pool in NSW, it’s nearest neighbour is the stunning Blue Pool in Bermagui, 115 kms or an hour and a half drive to the north.

We visited this beautiful spot in February 2024, when we travelled as far south as Merimbula for a tennis tournament. We couldn’t get this close without paying a visit. We got there after 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, and were met with the sight of a team of locals armed with shovels and buckets.

The pool was more than half full of sand, and these brave ocean pool enthusiasts were doing their best to remove what they could by hand. In my opinion, Bega Valley Council really needs to lift and get the job done with some heavy machinery.

The Unique Pink Cliffs of Asling's Beach Ocean Pool are Spectacular

The natural beauty of this spot is truly stunning. The outlook north along Aslings Beach is beautiful.

All along the south western edge of the pool are spectacular pink cliffs that almost caress that side of the pool. I’ve tried my best to do a little “internet research” about what sort of rocks they might be with no luck.

Any fair dinkum geologists want to shed some light on that for us? Either way they are kind of majestic. Bearing down on the pool without feeling threatening. Just tempting. Tempting you to climb up and jump off! The kids were happy to have a go, but it didn’t quite seem deep enough at the time for me to give it a go. If only the pool wasn’t quite so full of sand…

How big is Aslings Beach Rock Pool?

Roughly 25m (along the NE edge) by 19m (from the eastern corner to the cave in the south east corner) in size, it features a very cool cave in the southern corner that you can swim into. It was cool for a photo, but a little bit smelly…

We also had the pleasure of meeting Klara and Felix, retired German tourists on a road trip in a camper van. They had just completed The Great Ocean Road, and had stopped off in Eden on their way to Queensland. They didn’t seem daunted by the journey ahead at all. Felix even chipped in with a bucket and spade for a while. Hope they had a great trip.

Why is there so much sand in Aslings Beach Rock Pool?

Sand entering an ocean pool is not unusual, and I have witnessed the same problem first hand at Towradgi Rock Pool, North Bondi Children’s Pool, Wally Weekes and The Canoe Pool in Newcastle. It’s such a shame that this beautiful pool is so full of sand, making it much less swimmable than it otherwise would be. I admire the locals taking to the bucket and spade solution themselves, but it isn’t really a sustainable solution.

Here’s hoping Bega Valley Shire Council do the right thing and get some heavy machinery in to do the job sometime soon. Asling’s Beach Rock Pool is in such a stunning location, I think people would definitely travel from far and wide to swim here if it was well amintained.

I look forward to visiting Eden again. Even though we were only there for a very short time, I liked the chilled out vibe of the place. There’s also a skate park close by to Asling’s beach that we’ll be sure to check out if we have a bit more time up our sleeves next visit!
