Ocean Rock Pools Australia

Mollymook Bogey Hole

Mollymook Bogey Hole

Bogey Hole-Mollymook

Mollymook Bogey Hole is a naturally occurring rock pool located between the south end of Mollymook Beach and Golf Course Reef Beach. Access and parking available on Burleigh Way. Not to be confused with the ‘other’ bigger, brasher Bogey Hole at Newcastle, who I can picture as a bit more like Tony Soprano. Mollymook’s version is a bit like the  shy little sister, Janice but perhaps a little more endearing?

Wild beauty, made by mother nature, enhanced with some mining for silica from 1918 -1920, it became a popular swimming spot for locals and tourists alike.

Visiting Mollymook Bogey Hole

Almost 3 hours drive south of Sydney, this one is starting to get a bit far for a day trip, so why not pack the car and head down the coast for the weekend. There are a few ocean pools, not too far from each other in this part of the world.

Not far from it’s nearest neighbour, Ulladulla Sea Pool is only 3kms further south. Huskisson Sea Pool and Currarong Rock Pools are 54kms and  83kms to the north respectively.

Make sure you pack your snorkel for this place. The natural rocky surrounds are home to an abundance of sea creatures and pretty seaweed. We saw lots of small fish (I really need to start learning how to identify them).

Protected from the swell, this is a perfect spot for a cooling dip on a hot day, or to take the littlies for a paddle without the waves knocking them off their feet. in fact, families and kids love this place.

Dirk the duck told us the water temperature was around 19.2 degrees when we visited in April 2024. Quite pleasant really!

The raw beauty of this place is stunning, and if you’re lucky enough to get here on a weekday outside of the school holidays, you might even get the place to yourself.

Some of the rocks can be slippery or sharp, so make sure you take care, especially keeping an eye on the little ones.

I also heard a rumor that sometimes a coffee van visits the carpark. Now you’re talking my language! I don’t know details though, so if you know more get in touch and I’ll give them a plug!

Also, while we are talking food, if you need to get a bite, the food at The Heritage Bakery in Milton is pretty good, Campos coffee, and ice cream from my favourite place in the whole world, Bodalla Dairy. The peanut butter flavour is the bomb!!
