If you ask me, this collab seems like it was always meant to be. From the fact that they have been my personal choice for at least the last five years, to the absolute fun loving essence that all their designs bring poolside.
Why Budgy Smuggler and Ocean Rock Pools Joined Forces: When I decided to embark on this mission, trying to swim a lap in all of Australia’s Ocean Pools, and building this website to be an online record and resource for anyone looking to do the same, I had always planned on incorporating some kind of advertising (as part of my upskilling journey in the online space).
I daydreamed about the companies I thought might be a good fit, and wouldn’t you know it, Budgy Smuggler were at the top of my wish list. I approached them to be an affiliate for their online store, and, now, here we are. It actually seems win-win-win. Budgy potentially make more sales, customers get a sweet discount, and hopefully along the way I might make a couple of dollar bucks.
Shared Values and mission
Fun is the most important part: Don’t take yourself or life too seriously. Whether you’re punching out some serious laps, perfecting your cannonballs, hunting for octopuses in your favourite rock pool, braving the icy cold water in Winter or floating a sunny Summers afternoon away on some ridiculous inflatable, all of it is more fun if your swimming attire somehow represents your personality, your team colours or is a reminder of that epic holiday you went on with your mate’s for Helen’s Hen’s Weekend in 2019.

Our favourite designs: When I first was thinking about building this website, I had a strong desire to include an acknowledgement of the deep spiritual connection that our First Nations people had to the land, waterways and to the animals that inhabit them. I love indigenous art, and these themes are prevalent on many Budgy Smuggler designs.
Obviously I love octopuses, and the rubber duckie has become our unofficial mascot along the way. My friends and I love a banana or eggplant emoji gag, but honestly, any animal or fruit print makes me smile. I am currently rocking the pink pineapple and the original rubber duckies.

The Budgy smuggler brand started as a joke between a few mates. Their business is now super successful. The thing I take from this is have a go, and have plenty of fun along the way.
I also still have a one piece that looks like neopolitan ice cream melting, that was a present form my brother who is no longer with us. That particular design is no longer available, so i bloody treasure that pair of swimmers.
